Hiring a Writer: How to Find a Problem Solver

Hiring a writer is the last thing most business owners think they need but it is the one thing many find they have to search for. Many businesses today operate online and they have a website. Most websites are functional and to the point. As businessowners have found, functional isn’t always what brings customers onto their site nor does it establish them as an industry authority. After many hours of research, they find they need to hire a writer. For many, they don’t know how to hire a writer much less how to find one that is a problem solver.

Any online business has their share of problems. For most, their biggest problem is content creation. They look at the websites of larger, more successful businesses, they realize they don’t have a blog or a way to invite their audience in. Business owners often realize too late a lot of their customers are looking for a solution as well as information for a problem they have. Without taking the time to create a blog in the beginning, business owners now have the issue of creating a blog without having the time to do it. It’s now time to find a problem solver. It’s now time to hire a writer.

How to Find a Problem Solver

Conventionally, most business owners think there is a right and a wrong way to solve a problem. In today’s world, that’s not true. There are many ways to solve a problem, just like there are many types of writers to sort through.

There are processes in place to help any business find the right employee, contract or otherwise. Every business owner should make sure they take the time to find the person that works well with them and will enjoy the work they are doing. When it comes to hiring a writer, there are specific things that business owners should not forget to consider in their search.

  1. Define the Problem

Business owners should have already determined what their problem is and what they need regarding their website. They should know what their end goal is when they are conducting interviews or talking with writers. A great question to ask any potential writer is what they think the problem is. It’s easy to say a business needs a writer. It’s a bit harder to determine the kind of writer and knowledge needed to work with a business owner. By having the writer define what they consider the problem, it makes them think of the time commitment needed to solve and prevent further problems. It will also force writers to consider more than the money being offered for the project. It will also bring other concerns to the business owner’s attention they may not have known about.

  1. Define the Objective

Every business owner should know what they want from their writer. They should know the outcome they are looking to achieve. Why are they looking for a writer? What do they want to do with the content that’s being created? How is this going to help their business? These are objectives every business owner should consider before hiring anyone. Those answers will help define the length of the project as well as help determine the scope and budget of the project.

  1. Question the Alternatives Available

Hiring a writer isn’t easy and it isn’t a quick process. Not all business owners have the time or budget to hire a writer. Let’s be honest, a business’ budget is a major factor when it comes to hiring a writer. If the budget isn’t there, are their alternatives to hiring a writer? Does the business owner have time in their schedule to write content for themselves? Do they have time to post prewritten content? Do they have time to edit and post content for themselves? Do they have the tools to do it for themselves? If there is time and willingness to learn, buying prewritten content may be the alternative needed?

  1. Develop a Plan of Action

Business owners should have an idea of what their next steps are when it comes to their business. They should also know they will have to work with their newly hired writer to create a plan of action to reach their goals. A newly hired writer should be considered the expert in that area and business owners should take their opinions into consideration. During final discussions, business owners should ask their writer to help develop a plan of action to meet their shared goals and how to maintain their desired levels of success.

  1. Communication is Critical

When hiring a writer, communication is critical. The art and business of hiring a writer is serious to those that specialize in that industry. Communication from business owners is very important to writers and when things need to be discussed, it should be done. If they aren’t happy with the content being produced, they should hire a writer they are comfortable communicating with. As most blogs are published, those posts stay online for the life of their website. Great communication will save both owners and writers a nightmare relationship if they are able to communicate well.

  1. Execution is Essential

After hiring a writer, business owners should be ready to execute. It is a waste of time for both to go through the hiring process and creating a plan if it’s not going to be implemented. If anyone takes to time do all the work, creating content and paying for said work, it should be used as intended. If a business owner is not ready to execute, put a pin in the plan to hire anyone and continue to explore alternatives of hiring a writer.

Business is always going to be full of problems. In today’s world, the solution to those problems are easier to find that ever before. As business owners decide they need a content creator or writer, there are processes available to help make that happen. Instead of allowing an opportunity to be ignored, business owners should explore their options when it comes to hiring a writer.
